The Chase
“Why are you running?”
My heart asked my mind
The heart pounding faster
The mind still running , unable to unwind
Everyday there is a mission
The tasks to be overcome
For when darkness comes
Our productivity and self-worth overstrung
What are we running after
Are we competing for a place
Who judges our success
Better yet , is there a finish line in this race
This day , collapses into the next
When all that’s left behind is our old age
We forgot what the real purpose was
Did we even have time to disengage
These moments we don’t spend
We don’t have time for
They’re the memories , we struggle to keep store
But our memories are only vaguely beautiful
For the meaning lost in a haze
We don’t remember the feelings captured
In the fight to stay ahead of the maze
What I would do to bring back the simpler times
When joy was pure light-hearted jitters
Not the scurry of thoughts and time fleeting
Like the calm flowing water of rivers
If life wasn’t so much of a hurry
With no time to feel the value
Of relationships , of experiences, of accomplishments
All just a way of life , as it drags you
I wish one day to feel settled
Not governed by the hands of a clock
Not my lifetime goals and commitments
The depths of my soul , I wish to unlock
To find my life’s purpose and passion
To enjoy each day , just like the last
For the seconds running by in haste
Are not to be run after , but be paced
Life is not a marathon
We don’t need to begin with the end in mind
Life is a book with many chapters
We the author , of our destinies , designed
Life to be lived through each moment
Not a race to be run , not a chase
Life to be loved through each moment
Our hearts and minds , finally in embrace
